G & D Construction builds brick and block work that starts with proper layout, a stable base and mortar joints suited to the structure and exposure.

During the mortar-laying stage of a brick wall, a worker uses a brick trowel to butter the end of a brick before setting it into the course

Overview

Brick and block are among the most durable building materials available, and when they're laid well they last for generations. G & D Construction builds brick walls, steps, piers and columns, lays CMU block, and restores aging masonry with tuck-pointing for property owners in Lanham and nearby communities.

Every job starts with proper layout and a stable footing, followed by tight, even mortar joints suited to the structure and its exposure to weather. Whether it's a new garden wall, a block foundation or repointing an older brick facade, we build it to stay strong, straight and good-looking.

Services we provide

Brick Walls & Steps

Brick walls and steps add curb appeal that lasts for generations. We build garden walls, front steps and stoops with solid footings, even mortar joints and brick carefully chosen to complement your home.

Piers & Columns

Brick piers and columns support porches, decks and gates while framing your entrance. We build them plumb and square on proper footings, finished with caps and trim details that match your home's style.

CMU Cinder Block

Concrete masonry units are strong, economical and fire-resistant, making them ideal for foundations, garages, retaining walls and commercial buildings. We lay block level and plumb, reinforced and grouted where plans call for it.

Tuck-Pointing

Over time, mortar joints crack and wash out, letting water behind the brick. Tuck-pointing removes the damaged mortar and replaces it with fresh, color-matched joints that seal the wall and restore its appearance.

Our process

How the work goes

  1. Review the existing area

We examine the masonry, joints, adjacent surfaces, and visible signs of movement or water entry. This helps separate a surface repair from a larger section that needs rebuilding.

  2. Plan the layout and base

The project is organized around the intended dimensions, the connection to nearby work, and the support below the masonry. A clear layout helps keep courses, edges, and transitions consistent.

  3. Set brick or block

Units are placed with mortar, kept in line, and adjusted as the work progresses. For repairs, damaged material is removed as needed before new masonry is installed.

  4. Finish the joints and connections

The joints are finished for the type of work, and the new masonry is checked where it meets existing surfaces. The completed area is left ready for the next stage of the project.

Brick and Block Work questions

Answers before you book.

More questions on our full FAQ page.

Can you repair only the damaged part of a brick or block wall?

Often, yes. The surrounding units and joints need to be checked first so the repair does not leave unstable or deteriorated masonry in place.

How do I know whether a wall needs repair or rebuilding?

The decision depends on the amount of movement, the condition of the joints, the number of damaged units, and the support below the wall. A review of the full area gives a better answer than looking at one crack alone.

Can brick and block work be part of a larger construction project?

Yes. Masonry may be included alongside concrete, remodeling, additions, site work, or other construction tasks when the project calls for it.

Will new brick or block match the existing work?

The available material and the condition of the existing masonry affect the result. We can discuss the appearance and connection between new and existing work before the project begins.

The work was done in a timely manner. My only concern was the placement of some of the equipment on my lawn killed some of the grass.
